Winter Light

Autumn color withers, and the Alaskan landscape fades under an enchanting monochrome of snow and ice. On most winter days sunlight softens and cools through thick overcast clouds or, on cloudless days, through low fog. As the veil of fog lifts on still, clear days, it leaves behind hoar frost, a euphoric spectacle in low-angle sunlight, briefly revealing rich color and interrupting long stretches of dark and grey.
